OHCHR Quadrennial Report

In March, CPTI made a submission for to the delayed quadrennial report of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on conscientious objection to military service. The submission will shortly be uploaded on this website, there should also be a link to it on ohchr.org when the report itself appears.

David Bassett (continued)

 was the eminence grise behind the National Campaign for a Peace Tax Fund and a founder member of CPTI. He is also remembered as a campaigner for the Japanese-Americans, including his first wife Miyake, who had been interned during the War. He died on December 11th, aged 93.  He is much missed.

Sadly' we have to record the death of yet another giant of the peace tax movement- David Bassett.

Although he does not seem ever to have held formal office, David was the rminence grise behind the National Campaign for a Peace Tax Fund in the USA, and thus indirectly of CPTI.   He passed away at the age of 93 on 11th December 2021 at ther Friendly Home in Rochester NY,

Submissions to UN Human Rights Committee

At its 134th Session, from 28th February to 18th March 2022, the UN Human Rights Committee was to consider reports under the International Covenant for Civil and Political Rights from Bolivia, Cambodia, Iraq, Israel and the Russian Federation.  CPTI made submissions on all six, which can be accessed on the UN website  at https://tbinternet.ohchr.org/_layouts/15…
